Due March 3

Write down all the steps involved in subtracting fractions.  Then give two examples.

    1. Make common denominators and change numerators accordingly.
    2. Subtract the numerators and leave the denominators alone!!!
    3. Simplify if able.

    Example: 4/5-2/3=x 12/15-10/15=2/15 Answer-2/15
    Example: 5/6-1/6=4/6 4/2=2 6/2=3 2/3 Answer-2/3

    Step one is to make the denomanators the same but you have to make the numerators the same too. multiply the top and the bottom by the same number to get the fist fraction (you might have just made one bigger so it's the same or one smaller)
    step two is to subrtract the numerators. put the new numerator on the denomanator.
    step three is to simplify.

    to put it into simplier terms-
    Step 1. Make sure the bottom numbers (the denominators) are the same

    Step 2. Subtract the top numbers (the numerators). Put the answer over the the same denominator as in step 1

    Step 3. Simplify the fraction.

    example 1:
    9/12 - 2/4
    12 / 3 = 4
    9 / 3 = 3
    so 12/9=3/4
    3/4 - 2/4 = 1/4
    and it can't be simplified so it is 1/4

    example 2:
    12/24 - 6/12
    6 x 2 = 12
    12 x 2 = 24
    so 6/12=12/24
    12/24 - 12/24 = 0/24
    it can be simplified
    0 / 24 = 0
    24 / 24 = 1
    so
    0/24=0/1

    First you have to make the fraction's denominators the same. Then you subtract the fractions. Then you lower the denominator to the lowest number it can go.
    At least thats how I do it.
